Dental fillings

A dental filling is a procedure to restore tooth structure after tooth decay or other enamel damage has been removed.

When is a dental filling necessary?

  • Cavities (primary and deep)
  • Cracked and chipped teeth
  • Increased tooth sensitivity
  • Restoration after canal treatment

The filling procedure involves removing the diseased tissue and filling the cavity with a special material that restores chewing function and protects the tooth from recurrent decay. Modern filling materials allow not only to reliably restore the tooth, but also to preserve its natural appearance.
How is the filling procedure done?
  • 1
    Check-up and diagnostics
The doctor examines the damaged tooth and determines the work to be done.
  • 2
    Anesthesia
If damage is deep or the patient is sensitive to pain, local anesthesia is used to make the procedure comfortable.
  • 3
    Removal of damage
Special instruments are used to remove damaged areas of the tooth: enamel and deeper tooth tissue.
  • 4
    Protection of deep areas
If damage is deep, a special lining is used to protect the dental pulp from possible thermal or chemical damage.
  • 5
    Preparation for filling
A bonding system (adhesive) is applied to the cleaned tooth cavity, which ensures reliable fixation of the filling material to the tooth. This layer is activated by a special LED or halogen lamp.
  • 6
    Application of filling material
The filling material is inserted into the tooth in layers, each of which is polymerized (hardened) under a light bulb to ensure strength and durability.
  • 7
    Correction and polishing
Once the filling is cured, it is shaped to fit your bite and then polished to achieve a smooth and comfortable mouth feel.
Important: A filling is an important measure to restore a tooth, but it is even more important to prevent damage. This requires regular visits to the dentist, proper oral care, and the use of preventative measures.
